AWESOME NEWS: neuro-inclusivity is becoming a standard in design!

There is no doubt: architecture has an impact on our well-being, mood, sense of security.

Even more so, it is not indifferent to people with unique needs and sensory limitations. Space, light, colors, smells, sounds – all these stimuli have a special power to affect the perception of neuroatypical people.

Exemplary students of Design at the School of Form (a SWPS university in Warsaw) are aware of this, having ambitiously developed neuro-inclusive spatial solutions at the university as part of their “Neuroinclusive Common Space” class.

The classes, conducted under the guidance of Dr. Monika Rosińska and arch. Marta Wierusz and guest expert Prof. Michal Olszanski, were simultaneously actively supported by Atypika members: Kasia Modlinska, Dr. n. med. Krzysztof Szalecki and Agata Kiszluk-Krzemień.

Entrance hall with logical, clear and friendly organization of space and signage of functions in the building.  Lighting system tailored to the seasons and the functions of the rooms and zones.  Space arrangement with zoning and grading of stimuli. Cozy, intimate spaces that allow you to calm down and restore concentration. Patios where contact with nature is combined with being in a zone of individual comfort and at the same time with a sense of belonging to the community.

The research and design work of the young designers has brought multidimensional benefits:

First, the Foundation has gained a new neuro-inclusive knowledge base regarding design and training practices.

Second, the students gained new competencies, which are increasingly in demand on the job market.

Third, but no less important: neurodiverse people have been noticed, and their unique needs have become the overriding focus of projects!

We sincerely congratulate the incredible creativity and empathy of each project duo (Faisal Nurrachman and Xiao Liu, Illia Matiazh and Anna Fortecka, Nikolaj Bańka and Julia Kellener, Jakub Bruss and Dobromila Grabiec)!

We wish your brilliant ideas to be implemented as soon as possible.
