“It is extremely interesting that the idea of neurodiversity has evoked such a strong reaction in Poland, which is not famous for tolerance of otherness. I think this is due, first of all, to our previous ignorance of mental life and even hostile attitude towards it. Any manifestation of it has long been treated in advance as “girl talk,” “hysteria,” “self-indulgence,” and so on. Thus, neurodiversity has given us the tools to resist it. 

Secondly, Poles are a very critical nation, and as a result, they are accompanied by a lot of shame in speaking or showing their weaknesses as if these weaknesses completely define us. Neurodiversity has given us a new perspective, languages tools to talk about mental life in a non-stigmatizing and safe way. It shows that talking about difficulties goes hand in hand with talking about abilities and talents.”
